In a
way, the late Ernie Hagar took over where
Speedy
West left off. It was
Speedy who had given Ernie his real start in the music business. In the early
to mid-'60s, when most steelers were following the paths led by the super talented
Pete
Drake,
Jimmy Day and Ralph Mooney, Ernie opted to carry on with the Western Swing style
of steel guitar playing. He played on numerous studio sessions but cut only
a handful of solo records -- brilliant stuff nonetheless.
