Remember Rolling
Stone's 'Encyclopedia Of Rock & Roll' in 1975 ? That beautiful, coffee-table
sized book had its low points though, not least of which was Lester Bangs' study
of the 'British invasion' : his stupid statement that, initially, 'The Hollies
were mostly bad', shows how misguided most music writers had become at the time.
The Hollies' energetic cover of Maurice Williams' classic,
'Stay', in 1963 catapulted them into the spotlight and we can only moan at the
lack of similarly exciting stuff some 43 years later !! Thus began one of he
most successful careers in British Rock by one of the all-time beat groups -
ranking just a couple of notches below The Beatles. And that says something
!!
